How to Make Loose Leaf Iced Tea
With summer’s balmy weather, there is nothing like a refreshing cup of iced tea to cool you down and quench your thirst. Here are three easy techniques that show you how to make loose leaf iced tea as an instant cup, a pitcher, or a gallon or more with your favorite Arogya tea.
Iced Tea in a Hurry
Makes an instant cup of iced tea
- 1 teaspoon tea leaves of choice
- 6 ounces hot water (see specific tea for exact temperature)
- 4 ounces ice
Brew the tea as would normally for a hot cup of tea, using the measurements above. When it’s done steeping, about 3 minutes, add the ice, give it a stir and done!
Basic Iced Tea
Makes a pitcher of cold-brewed iced tea
- 4 teaspoons tea leaves of choice*
- 1 quart cold water
Steep the tea leaves in cold water in a glass pitcher or mason jar. You can use an infuser basket, or put the leaves directly in the vessel. Keep in the fridge (a must for green teas), or at room temperature. Steeping the tea in the fridge will produce a smoother, somewhat lighter brew. For a more tannic or slightly stronger brew, steep at room temperature. Let steep overnight, or for at least eight hours. If you put the tealeaves directly in the water, strain the tea when ready.
*If you want to use one of our readymade cold brew sachets instead of loose leaf, steep 1 tea sachet in 2 quarts of cold water.
Iced Tea Concentrate
Makes one gallon of iced tea, without crowding your fridge
- 1 ounce tea leaves of choice
- 1 quart cold water for steeping
- 2 quarts cold water for diluting
- 1 quart ice
Place the tea leaves directly in your vessel filled with cold water. Steep overnight, or for at least eight hours. Strain the tea into a one gallon container (or a couple pitchers), add the water for diluting, and the ice. Now you have a gallon of iced tea! This recipe can easily be multiplied to make larger quantities.
