Soothing Tea Eye Compresses

Looking to get even more healing benefits from your organic Arogya tea?

Try using our green or chamomile teas to make soothing tea eye compresses.  Resting with chilled tea bags over the eyes for 10 to 20 minutes can help reduce and prevent puffiness and nourish your skin.  It’s also a wonderful way to unwind anytime of day.

Why Green Tea?

The caffeine in green tea helps constrict the blood vessels around the eyes and, as a result, reduce the fluid build up that leads to puffiness.  Green tea also contains nourishing tannins, a polyphenol with anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties.  They further soothe the skin. We recommend using our Emerald Mountain or Dragon Well green tea.

Why Chamomile?

Chamomile has been used in herbal medicine for hundreds of years for its antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and antispasmodic properties.  Chilled chamomile tea eye compresses can counter puffiness and, as some believe, help reduce dark circles under the eyes.  We recommend our pure chamomile or Chamomile Lavender blend.

How to Make Tea Eye Compresses

  • Pack loose leaf tea into bags. Seal the bag by folding, heat sealing, or tying (see photos).  We love these Finum paper filters, which you can find in our store in Westport or online.
  • Brew yourself a nice pot of tea with 2 tea bags.
  • Remove tea bags from tea, place in an airtight container and chill.  Use within 2 days.
  • Relax with tea bags over your eyes for 10-20 minutes. If you wear contacts, remove them first.  You can even do this while resting in a restorative yoga pose like legs-up-the-wall.
