Happy New Year! It’s that time of the year! The beginning of a new time. A time for reevaluating our past year and making new goals, new resolutions, and new commitments. Many of us make resolutions about health and wellness, which can be particularly daunting after weeks of holiday feasting. One of my goals every year is cutting back my intake of sweets and overcoming sugar cravings, which I found to be a very daunting task, but along the way, I’ve learned many important things about our relationship with sugar and tips on how to say no to sugar.Read More›
We are almost halfway done with winter! Only a few more weeks left, and hopefully we won’t have anymore crazy cold bursts like we did at the beginning of 2018. Even though the temperatures have gone up a bit, winter is still in full swing and we still need to protect ourselves from the cold weather and keep doing what’s necessary to stay healthy in winter.Read More›
Have you ever wondered how one plant (Camellia sinensis) can be crafted into a near infinite number of varieties of tea? Or have you found yourself curious about tea culture prior to the English teapot and beyond today’s ubiquitous tea bags?
We hope you enjoy this first chapter of our current work-in-progress: an educational series exploring and demystifying Chinese teas, as well as the rich culture behind them. This post will begin with an introduction to the plant, examining its cultivation as well as how terroir influences the final product. Future posts will examine harvesting, processing, and eventually take us on a complete journey through the subtle differences between each type of tea and their known benefits.Read More›
For many people, alcohol is the drink of choice when they get home from a long day at work, or to sip along with their evening meal. If you are looking for a healthier way to wind down at the end of the day, consider making a cup of tea your evening ritual.Read More›
I’ll never forget the first time I enjoyed a cup of classic masala chai tea. I was 20 years old and had just embarked on what would be the first of many trips to India in the decade that followed. It was about 5:00 in the morning and the overnight bus I was aboard from Delhi to the northern city of Dharamsala pulled over on the side of a road in a tiny town nestled in the foothills of the Himalayas.Read More›
At Arogya we have been drinking what we call the “Oolong bomb”. It is inspired by gong-fu style preparation and creates a powerful brew, ideal for enhancing focus and productivity. In China, Oolong tea is well-known for its concentration-enhancing effects, which is why it is a favorite tea of students and executives alike. A normal cup of Oolong contains one teaspoon of tealeaves for an 8 oz. cup. The Oolong Bomb contains twice the amount of tea leaves, with half the water. The Oolong tea leaves are rinsed with hot water, and then brewed at a slightly lower temperature, around 185˚ F for 4 minutes. What ensues is a potent, espresso-like shot of concentrated and robust Oolong tea. This is a great way to enjoy the taste, as well as the mental and physical benefits Oolong tea provides. Try brewing an Oolong Bomb before studying, meditating, or having a meeting.Read More›
